The Pretrial Specialist is responsible for assisting case management staff in gathering information from defendants in the Sawyer County Jail as well as individuals ordered to pretrial services by a judicial officer. The Pretrial Specialist should have knowledge of the criminal justice system and will act as a neutral party responsible for providing objective services and support to clients working with JusticePoint and involved in the Sawyer County criminal justice system. Clients often experience substance abuse disorder and/or can be in an active mental health crisis; as such, this position requires an individual that is empathetic, patient, and compassionate.

The Pretrial Specialist’s duties include completing pretrial risk assessments for defendants entering the Sawyer County criminal justice system, performing observed drug and alcohol screening, providing electronic monitoring services, delivering cognitive behavioral interventions for individuals on pretrial diversion programming, and entering and maintaining case information in the electronic database.

Competencies:

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, and Excel)
• Ability to communicate professionally & accurately, both orally and written
• Organized, attentive to detail, ability to multi-task, work independently
• Previous experience working with criminal justice-involved clients preferred

Requirements:

• Associates’ degree or equivalent experience working in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, or related human service field
• Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and automobile with insurance
• Passing a pre-employment background check (as required by the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Department)
