Minnesota Justice Research Center Associate Director

Organization Overview

The Minnesota Justice Research Center (MNJRC) is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to driving meaningful change to Minnesota’s criminal legal system through rigorous and community-centered research, education, and policy development. We seek a criminal legal system that promotes public safety by being more equitable, accountable, and restorative in delivering justice. Position Overview

The MNJRC is a rapidly growing organization with a powerful vision to transform the criminal legal system. This position provides strategic leadership, overseeing finance, communications, staff supervision, and board relations while supporting the Executive Director in organizational management. This position provides leadership to operations, Communications and finance while supervising a team of Directors responsible for research, education and policy development.

Key Responsibilities

Organizational Management

  • Partner with Executive Director to develop and track annual work plans for Directors
  • Supervise Leadership Team consisting of:
    • Research Director
    • Director of Community Impact (Education)
    • Policy Director
    • Communications Manager
  • Partner with the ED and Office Manager to Coordinate efforts with the Board of Directors

Financial Management

  • Work with Office Manager to staff Finance Committee meetings and liaise with accounting contractors (The Difference Principle – TDP)
  • In partnership with the Executive Director, Treasurer, and TDP staff, oversee organizational and project budget
  • Work with Office Manager to manage contract invoicing, payments, and grant reporting
  • Partner with the ED to oversee financial processes including deposits, credit card reconciliation, and audit preparation
  • Partner with TDP to insure compliance with fiduciary requirements and annual filings

Joint Supervision of Administrative and Communications Management

  • In partnership with the ED supervise Administrative and Office Manager to ensure delivery of organizational operations
  • In partnership with the ED supervise Communications Manager

Required Qualifications

  • Experience managing nonprofit organizations, including in a supervisory role
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors
  • Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Deep attention to detail and strong organization skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work with people with a diversity of experiences
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a dynamic environment
  • A self-starter mentality while also able to report to, clearly communicate with, and respond to a team
  • A deep commitment to understanding and transforming how we think about justice in Minnesota

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years of demonstrated success in leadership in nonprofit organizations
  • Experience working with a diversity of partners
  • Demonstrated success in growing an organization
  • Experience working with and engaging diverse populations
  • Individuals who identify as BIPOC/LGBTQIA+/Different Abilities are encouraged to apply
